Interaction Design Association (IxDA) (Bengaluru chapter) organized the Bengaluru chapter of the global celebration of World Interaction Day day at JW Marriott Hotel Bengaluru on 25th September 2018. I had the chance to attend 2 really informative talks on this occasion.
IxDA is a member-supported organization dedicated to the discipline of interaction design. A great platform for people to meet and converse on important trends, topics, technologies, works and ideas revolving around interaction design. The association has local groups all over the world, called chapters, and the Bengaluru chapter is one of the active chapters.
The event started at approximately 12.45 with an introduction to IxDA by Alok Nandi, president at IxDA, followed by talks by Aparna Ashok and Neha Khandelwal. Aparna talked about the Ethical Design framework and what needs to be taken care of when we're designing for a population which is new to technology and hence vulnerable to some extent. She explains that it is our responsibility as designers to consider ethics when it comes to designing for the vulnerable population, which is not as comfortable with technology as others are.
Neha talked about inclusivity and the need to take care of accessibility, not only as an add-on but as a basic necessity of any digital product. She elaborated more on visual disability and helped the audience empathize towards such users. Check out a medium article by her on 'Using technology as an enabler for PwD'
